THE PURSUIT IS HAPPINESS
THE PURSUIT IS HAPPINESS
Meet Joe. Joe has excelled at everything in every area of his life, his entire life. He is ambitious, creative, and hard-working and he executes his plans daily. He is also an incredible husband to his beautiful wife of 4 and a half years, her name is Lisa. She is also a high achiever and very supportive of Joe and unified in the vision they have for their family. They have 2 children, Billy who is 3 years old, and Grace who is 11 months old. They are a young and promising family. They live in a nice and safe community in a 3 bedroom cookie cutter home on a cul-de-sac with a white picket fence, have 2 luxury vehicles, and everything that they have set out to gain. From the outside looking in, everyone that knew Joe and Lisa would say they have made it and that they were very successful.
However, every other Sunday night, Joe and Lisa go over their budget together. Utilizing a self-taught system that has allowed them to track their finances, they check the money coming in and assign it to their outgoing bills. Every month their needs are met. Every month they have just a little more month than money. Every month they look at their savings and see no physical evidence that either one of them has a job. They work hard Friday to Friday paycheck to paycheck and never seem to get ahead. They love what they do for work, but they are frustrated. To them, it feels like they work to buy things they don‘t want, to impress people they don’t like, and they don’t know how they got here. Every time Joe sits down to cut the check for his Cadillac payment, he grits his teeth, and a tear forms out of the corner of his eye. In his mind, he thinks, “I wasn’t born to just go to work, pay bills and die.” His dream is dying. His self-image is being obliterated and behind closed doors, his marriage is becoming a war zone. Like most Americans, Joe and Lisa need help. We are all sold a bill of goods on what the American Dream is supposed to look like. We are told to go to school, get good grades, land a career, get married, buy a home, get into debt, have a family, and finance our existence through retirement. We got swindled! Bamboozled! We got all caught up in toxic consumerism and keeping up with the Joneses and we never look up to realize that we‘re all heading straight off the economic cliff. Joe and Lisa are not alone. According to a 2017 article by CareerBuilder 78% of people are living paycheck to paycheck and approximately 66% of Americans would struggle to pay for a $1000.00 emergency. What’s even more astonishing is how our finances can become barriers in our most valued relationships. According to a 2018 article by MARKETWATCH.COM financial problems and behaviors are the number 1 predictor for getting divorced. Financial firm TD Ameritrust found that 41% of divorced GenXers and 29% of Boomers say they ended their marriage due to disagreements about money. As of 2021 Money arguments are the 2nd leading cause of divorce and the number 1 reason for arguments in the home, according to an article at www.thejimenzlawfirm.com.

A financial coach helps you create goals and actually stick with them so you’re not just dreaming about financial peace—you’re living it. Financial coaching is different from any other finance-related job. CPAs help you with your taxes. Financial advisors help you with investments. But financial coaches work with you to create a start-to-finish plan for your money and help keep you on track.
Financial coaches often work with their clients over several sessions—focusing on anything from fine-tuning your budget to discovering your long-term goals to working through a real financial crisis. No matter the situation, financial coaches sit with you one on one (we call it “kneecap to kneecap”) to help you overcome the challenges that hold you back in your finances.
That’s the great thing about a financial coach—they can help you in any situation! Maybe you’re up to your eyeballs in student loans or credit card debt, or you’re having money fights with your spouse. Or maybe you have big money goals—like saving to buy a house or setting yourself up for retirement—but no plan to achieve them. Regardless, a coach can meet you where you’re at and steer you in the right direction to win with your money.
Since every situation is different and each individual requires their own unique start. There is no set pricing for Financial Coaching. All Ramsey Preferred Coaches (RPCs) are actually independent coaches who charge their own rates—but most offer a free consultation. If you choose to work with a financial coach, they may charge a flat rate that includes several sessions, or they may charge an hourly rate for each session. Generally, though, financial coaches will work with you to make recommendations based on your needs.
The better question here is, what will it cost you if you don’t seek out the services of a financial coach?
Coaching is meant to put money back in your pocket, not take it out. It’s the best way to help you develop the right money habits and put an end to your money problems. Some people will ask if they can afford it, but maybe you should ask yourself, Can I afford to not get help from a coach?
If you’re trying to get out of debt, other options (like credit counseling and bankruptcy) only manage the symptoms. They don’t change the habits that got you there. And the cost of bankruptcy is more than a financial burden—it’s a stain on your personal record.
There’s no better way to establish good money habits than by having a personal money mentor who understands your situation. And sidenote: You should never be ashamed of your financial struggles when working with a coach. They’re here to encourage you. These men and women are trained professionals who work with people from all walks of life and all ranges of income. Whatever you’re going through, it’s okay.
No—mainly because we don’t want your coach to become your creditor. They’re working to get you out of debt, not deeper in it. Instead, we ask that you always pay your coach in full up front (no credit cards). And remember, nearly all of our coaches offer their first session completely free.
Financial Peace University (FPU) is a nine-week class that teaches the nuts and bolts of Dave Ramsey’s principles. Though financial coaching and FPU are different, they actually go hand-in-hand. In fact, many of our coaches will encourage you to take FPU before or during your sessions with them. Think of it this way: FPU lays the foundation that your coach uses to build a plan for your money.
Not officially. Our financial coaches are considered Ramsey Preferred Coaches. Ramsey Preferred Coaches (RPCs) are independent business owners, so their paychecks don’t come from Dave. But they are professional financial coaches who’ve been trained extensively by Ramsey Solutions FCMT. Every one of our financial coaches bases their financial advice on the Ramsey principles. Combined with the Epic Pursuits Code of Ethics, our financial coaches are trained and equipped to help you gain financial peace.
Marriage is not “me”—it’s “we.” Working on your finances together is the only way to succeed when it comes to money. Not only that, many couples find that talking about money actually reduces stress in their marriage. It’s so important, we’ve made it one of our core teachings.
If you’re having difficulty getting your spouse on board, let your coach know.
The great part about working with a financial coach is that they’ll guide you through every step of the process. But during your first consultation, your coach will ask questions to get to know you—your goals, your dreams, your past, your pain points, etc. So be sure to have your answers ready.
